Learn to make real bread

Sue Hudson is an experienced trainer and runs her bread making workshops in Essex, Suffolk and Norfolk, teaching the craft of artisan bread making through a programme of public events and bespoke workshops.

The workshops are  informal, hands-on sessions for beginners and more experienced bakers: with limited numbers per session, everybody gets stuck in and has fun,  leaving with baskets of hot, freshly baked loaves and with all the knowledge needed to continue baking at home!

A Bread Workshop

Sourcing local flour

Whenever possible, Sue researches local mills and aims to use flour sourced from the locality or, if that proves difficult, at least from the region.

Seasonal specialities

Sue has developed special seasonal programmes, Christmas stollen and walnut wreaths; star and herring shaped rolls (herring festival at Middleton 2009), enriched breads, continental olive oil loaves, stuffed soda bread, butter and fat/sugar free creations. Fresh yeast or dry yeast or no yeast at all – Sue covers everything you might like to attempt.  As Sour dough is a long process, this process is usually not tackled at a workshop,  however Sue can provide tips !!  (her “cheats’ sourdough”  is an alternative!)

“I would like to thank you for a wonderful day, I had great fun and have lots of lovely bread to eat with my husband!”

“I wanted to thank you for such an enjoyable bread making time.  I’d never have branched out from endless small brown wholemeal loaves if it hadn’t been for yesterday, watching you plaiting, kneading and mixing was to watch an artist at work!”

“Thank you for a thoroughly enjoyable day, I am delighted with the loaves we made under your expert tuition and my husband is enjoying eating them, too!”

“John had an excellent day, thank you, I hope he will come again to the Bread Workshop”
